The New Hampshire Retirement System (NHRS) is seeking an experienced, motivated, and detail-oriented Director of Communication and Legislative Affairs.

The Director of Communication and Legislative Affairs serves as the primary spokesperson for the New Hampshire Retirement System (NHRS). This position is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and overseeing NHRS’s public information efforts, membership and employer education programs, and internal and external communication initiatives. The Director works collaboratively across the organization, particularly with the Legal team, to research, monitor, and analyze existing and proposed legislation affecting NHRS, ensuring accurate, timely, and transparent communication with stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Track and analyze legislation impacting NHRS and advise Executive Management and the Board of Trustees on legislative strategies and communication.
  • Act as a liaison and spokesperson with legislators, media, unions, employers, and other stakeholders, delivering factual and unbiased information.
  • Assist all departments in implementing changes driven by legislation.
  • Lead public information efforts, developing communications across platforms (brochures, newsletters, website content, news releases, etc.) to keep stakeholders informed on current and proposed benefit provisions.
  • Plan and oversee member and employer education programs, media relations, and public presentations.
  • Leads the website administration team by developing and/or editing content and monitoring the efficacy and accessibility of the NHRS website for the purpose of delivering accurate, consistent and concise information via the Internet and social media.
  • Support NHRS crisis management and strategic planning initiatives, collaborating with executive leadership and other NHRS teams.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field.
  • Minimum of seven years’ experience in journalism, public relations, legislative relations, or similar fields.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and supervisory skills with a proven ability to build relationships and manage high-impact communication strategies.
  • Experience managing a team.

Salary:

This is an exempt position with a pay range of $120,000-$140,000
