Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Human Resources Generalist provides advanced professional support in key areas of Human Resources, including employee relations, engagement, labor relations, and compliance. This position partners closely with employees, leaders, and HR Leadership to ensure consistent and compliant practices that align with organizational values and regulatory standards. The role also serves as a liaison between HR and the Medical Staff Office to ensure accurate verification and maintenance of clinical credentials. Additionally, this position oversees and supports the coordination of workplace injury reporting and follow-up in compliance with applicable laws and internal policy. The Senior HR Generalist is a key contributor to department operations and provides backup support across all HR functions.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Extensive experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive HR experience with strong emphasis on employee relations, compliance, and workplace safety.
  • Healthcare or hospital HR experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of federal and state employment law, FMLA, ADA, OSHA, and workers’ compensation regulations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems (Paylocity experience a plus).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Employee Relations:

  • Serves as the primary contact and trusted advisor for employee and manager relations, ensuring fair, consistent, and legally compliant practices.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to leaders on policy interpretation, corrective actions, and performance management.
  • Conduct thorough and impartial investigations into employee concerns and grievances.
  • Maintain detailed documentation related to employee relations matters.
  • Recommend and implement strategies to mitigate risk and enhance workplace culture

Labor Relations:

  • Supports labor relations activities to promote collaborative partnerships with union representatives and ensure adherence to collective bargaining agreements.
  • Provide interpretation of collective bargaining agreements for leaders and staff.
  • Participate in grievance handling and documentation in coordination with HR Leadership.
  • Assist in data preparation, research, and coordination related to collective bargaining and contract negotiations.


Employee Engagement:

  • Supports and drives initiatives that promote a positive, inclusive, and engaging work environment across all departments
  • Collaborate with HR Leadership to develop and sustain recognition and engagement programs.
  • Partner with leaders on survey administration, action planning, and communication of engagement results.
  • Assist in the creation of strategies aimed at improving retention and overall employee satisfaction.


Compliance & Credentialing:

  • Ensures HR and organizational compliance through oversight of credential verification and documentation for clinical and allied health professionals.
  • Oversee the onboards and compliance processing for contracted professionals, including travel, temps, and locum providers.
  • Monitor and report workplace injury trends; ensure OSHA and state-mandated reporting requirements are met.
  • Partner with the Medical Staff Office to maintain and verify credentials for nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals.
  • Support internal and external audits to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Maintain confidential personnel and credentialing files in accordance with legal and organizational standards.
  • Collaborate on the review and implementation of HR policies and compliance procedures.
  • Serve as an administrator of the Elsevier Learning Management System (LMS), including user setup, course assignments, reporting, and troubleshooting.


HR Operations and Departmental Support:

  • Provides leadership support and serves as a departmental resource to ensure the effective delivery of HR services.
  • Serve as a backup across HR functions including benefits, recruitment, payroll, and HRIS.
  • Contribute to HR process improvement initiatives and system optimization efforts.
  • Represent HR on cross-departmental committees and special projects.
  • Support HR data reporting, analytics, and documentation requests.

QUALIFICATIONS:


EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience preferred.


EXPERIENCE/SKILL SETS:

  • 2+ years of prior talent acquisition experience
  • 2+ years of full cycle recruiting experience
  • Physician / Clinician recruitment experience preferred.


LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION(S):

  • SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP or similar strongly preferred.

Compensation Disclosure in Accordance with Vermont Act 155:

In compliance with Vermont Act 155, Brattleboro Memorial Hospital provides the compensation range for this position in good faith. The listed range represents the pay scale reasonably expected for a successful candidate based on factors such as relevant experience, education, internal equity, and market competitiveness. Final compensation will be determined during the hiring process.


Salary Description:

The salary range for this position is $72,800.00 to $89,419.20 annual salary.
