The Position:
As a Restaurant Host at Scarlet Oak Tavern, you are one of the first and most important points of contact for our guests. You will create a warm and welcoming first impression, manage reservations and seating, and help ensure that every guest has an enjoyable experience from the moment they arrive.
The Host works closely with the entire restaurant team to maintain an organized, efficient, and welcoming front-of-house operation. This is a full-time position for someone who enjoys hospitality, thrives in a busy restaurant environment, and takes pride in creating a positive experience for both guests and teammates.
What You'll Do
- Welcome every guest with a warm, friendly, and genuine greeting.
- Manage reservations, waitlists, and seating to ensure an organized and efficient flow of guests.
- Monitor the dining room and communicate with servers, managers, and other team members to ensure guests are attended to promptly.
- Maintain a strong knowledge of the menu, specials, restaurant offerings, and general guest information.
- Answer guest questions and make appropriate recommendations when needed.
- Anticipate guest needs and look for opportunities to enhance their experience.
- Respond to guest concerns professionally and involve management when appropriate.
- Communicate effectively with the restaurant team regarding reservations, seating, special occasions, guest requests, and other important information.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming host stand and front-of-house area.
- Assist the team wherever needed to support a smooth and successful service.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a full-service, high-volume restaurant preferred.
- A genuine passion for hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences.
- A warm, welcoming personality and a positive attitude—you smile, have fun, and make people feel welcome.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and remain organized in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to remain calm and professional during busy or stressful periods.
- Ability to take direction and work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to anticipate guest and team needs.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and safely carry a tray.
- Flexibility to work a full-time restaurant schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
