Trilap Precision Finishing, our sister company in Lowell, MA, is adding a Precision Lapping Machinist to the team.

Schedule: Monday thru Thursday 7 - 3:30 and Friday 6 to 2:30.

Day in the life

You’ll operate lapping equipment to produce parts that meet demanding customer specifications. Expect a mix of standing and sitting while loading/unloading parts, running cycles, and cleaning components between operations. You’ll keep quality at the forefront—measuring parts between cycles, inspecting to print callouts/specifications, and reporting any issues promptly.

Key responsibilities

  • Manufacture (lapping) parts to customer specifications.
  • Measure parts in between cycles and verify results against prints.
  • Clean parts and maintain part integrity throughout processing.
  • Keep equipment and the work area clean and orderly.
  • Detect, segregate, and report non-conforming material and foreign object debris (FOD).
  • Control and document non-conforming material using required reports.
  • Maintain part identification and lot segregation at all times.
  • Inspect work as necessary to print callouts/specifications.
  • Accurately report any damaged/nonconforming parts to team leaders/Manager.
  • Assist with packaging and shipping parts.
  • Report any safety issues found during normal job activities.

Competencies

  • Basic understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is a plus.
  • Ability to multitask (e.g., measure parts while other parts are running; run more than one machine).
  • Manual dexterity and steady hands.
  • Endurance for standing for long periods.
  • Strong attention to detail; clean and organized work habits.
  • Proven focus on safety and a safe work track record.

Required knowledge & skills

  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerance understanding.
  • Proficiency with inspection tools: dial indicators, gage blocks, micrometers.
  • Good communication skills.

Specific training

Familiarity with Trilap forms and procedures.

Education

Vocational or non-vocational High School Graduate or GED.

Reporting line

Direct Supervisor: General Manager

Physical/mental demands

  • Must be able to lift and move machined parts.

Work environment

  • Clean and relatively quiet in most areas; hearing protection required in some areas.
  • Eye hazard potential; eye protection required for certain operations.

Overtime

Occasional overtime, workload dependent.
