CNC Machinist – 2nd Shift

Position Overview

A growing manufacturing company is seeking an experienced 2nd Shift CNC Machinist to join their production team. This role is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC mills and/or lathes to produce precision parts that meet exacting quality and tolerance standards. The ideal candidate brings solid hands-on experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently during evening hours with minimal supervision.

Schedule

This is a 2nd shift position. Specific hours to be confirmed based on facility operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC mills and/or lathes to produce parts according to engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and CAD/CAM programs to determine proper tooling, machine settings, and production sequences
  • Load programs, make minor edits/offsets, and adjust machine parameters to maintain part quality and dimensional accuracy
  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify conformance to specifications
  • Identify and troubleshoot machine malfunctions, tooling issues, or quality deviations, escalating as needed
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and ensure tooling is properly maintained and replaced as needed
  • Maintain accurate production records, including quantities produced, scrap, and downtime
  • Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area
  • Communicate effectively with shift leads and day-shift personnel to ensure smooth handoffs and production continuity
  • Support continuous improvement efforts to enhance efficiency, reduce scrap, and improve cycle times

Qualifications

Required:

  • 2–3 years of hands-on CNC machining experience (mill, lathe, or both)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T
  • Working knowledge of CNC controls (Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, or similar)
  • Proficiency using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently during 2nd shift hours with minimal direct supervision
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred:

  • Experience with CAM software and basic program editing
  • Familiarity with both milling and turning operations
  • Experience working in a lean manufacturing or continuous improvement environment
  • High school diploma, GED, or technical/vocational training in machining
