NEMO Transportation Inc. is a growing student transportation company seeking an experienced and dependable Director of Transportation & Operations to lead our day-to-day transportation operations.
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who can oversee drivers, monitors, dispatch, routes, vehicles, school district communication, safety, and compliance while ensuring reliable daily transportation service.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily AM and PM transportation operations.
- Manage and support drivers, monitors, and dispatch staff.
- Coordinate routes, vehicle assignments, staffing, and backup coverage.
- Handle driver call-outs, delays, route changes, and other daily operational issues.
- Communicate professionally with school districts and educational partners.
- Investigate and resolve transportation complaints, incidents, and service concerns.
- Oversee driver and monitor compliance, including CORI, SAFIS/fingerprinting, 7D licensing, medical certificates, and required training.
- Monitor employee performance, punctuality, safety, and accountability.
- Coordinate vehicle availability and route assignments.
- Identify operational problems and implement solutions that improve reliability and efficiency.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a supervisory or management role within operations, transportation management, logistics, or a related field.
- Previous experience working in school transportation is strongly preferred.
- Experience managing drivers, transportation staff, dispatch, routes, or fleet operations is highly desirable.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with Massachusetts 7D/student transportation requirements is a plus.
- Valid driver's license and ability to successfully complete required background checks.
- Must live within a reasonable commuting distance of Chelmsford, MA, as this is an on-site, hands-on operational leadership position.
Schedule
This is a full-time position requiring flexibility and availability during critical morning and afternoon school transportation hours. The Director must also be reachable when significant operational issues arise.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $75,000–$85,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
After completing one year of employment, the employee will be eligible for:
- One month of paid leave annually
- Medical insurance, subject to the terms and eligibility requirements of the company plan
