JOB TITLE: Product Engineer

LOCATION: Foxboro, MA

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Product Engineer is responsible for designing and developing consumer products that are safe, intuitive to assemble, and optimized for manufacturability. This role collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to ensure product designs meet performance, cost, safety, and customer satisfaction targets. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical design fundamentals, SolidWorks expertise, and hands-on experience taking products from concept through testing and release.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and review detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Support the detailed design of components and sub-assemblies, ensuring manufacturability and reliability.
  • Participate in design reviews, evaluating system interactions, potential failure modes, and design risks.
  • Manage and maintain technical specifications, product definitions, and documentation throughout development.
  • Conduct DFMEA and apply GD&T principles to ensure high-quality, robust product designs.
  • Communicate design concepts through sketches, CAD models, 3D prototypes, and presentations.
  • Perform product testing and validation to ensure compliance with safety regulations and consumer standards.
  • Gather and analyze Voice of the Customer (VOC) to develop detailed product requirements and design inputs.
  • Collaborate with marketing, manufacturing, quality assurance, and other teams to drive projects to completion.
  • Manage project timelines and budgets to ensure on-time and cost-effective delivery.
  • Identify and develop new product ideas, features, and cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Define and maintain product requirements, verification plans, and test procedures aligned with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Evaluate and test prototypes for feasibility, usability, and compliance (ASTM, ISO, BIFMA, etc.).
  • Support the development and maintenance of regulatory warnings, safety documentation, and test protocols.
  • Coordinate with third-party testing labs as required for regulatory compliance.
  • Support domestic and international business travel as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of product development experience, preferably with consumer-assembled furniture.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and experience with both 3D modeling and 2D drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of DFMEA, GD&T, and product testing methodologies.
  • Experience managing engineering projects, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with wood product design, injection molding, and manufacturing processes.
  • Background in regulated industries (ASTM, ISO, BIFMA).
  • Knowledge of ASTM/ANSI/BIFMA standards related to nursery and juvenile consumer products.
  • Experience writing product requirements, test methods, and verification documentation.
