- They might be confusing this with a tool maker (or mold maker) position, which is a more skilled position and would demand a higher rate.
- Our tool builder is building molds for the machines, cleaning them, and doing PMs on them. They are not working on lathes or machines to fabricate the molds.
The Tool Builder is responsible for building molds for the molding machines per the molding schedule, operating molding machines and maintaining a clean and organized work area.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
- Build molds for molding machines by assembling tooling components into the mold bases per the blueprint instructions
- Perform inspection of mold bases and components
- Follow blueprint when selecting appropriate molds and components
- Consult and follow the production schedule for molds to be built
- Use measurement tools i.e. snap gage, digital calipers, and other measuring instruments
- Organize and maintain the tool storage area
- Coordinate tool repairs with the tool shop
- Assist with preventive maintenance (PM) of the tools and mold bases
- Operate molding machines as needed
- Assist the molding technicians, the tool shop and other team members daily
- Utilize NAV and QMS databases as needed
- Disassemble and clean molds at end of run and return components to appropriate locations
- Follow established procedures as well as quality and safety standards
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Special Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Able to demonstrate a strong mechanical aptitude
- Experience in the use of hand tools, i.e. screwdriver, hammer, drill, wrench
- Good organizational skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail
- Experience with measuring equipment, i.e. snap gage, digital calipers, and other measuring instruments
- Team player who works in cooperation with others
- HS Degree or GED
- 1+ years manufacturing experience preferred
Physical Demands:
- Continuously required to stand and use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms
- Frequently required to walk, bend, carry, push/pull
- Continuously required to use fine motor skills
- Frequently required to lift/carry objects up to 25 pounds
- May be required to push, pull and use assisted lift objects of up to 50 pounds
- Hearing, seeing ability to include depth perception, peripheral vision and rapid mental coordination
