$40–$45+/hr direct hire (can go higher for candidates with specialty industrial equipment experience) — plus a company truck, per diem when travel is required, full benefits including PTO and 401k + match, and 1.5x overtime pay.
Long service days often mean you're working a 4-day week instead of 5 (Fridays off).
You'd be joining a well-established, stable equipment manufacturer's field service team based in the Springfield, MA area, covering customer sites across New England.
This is mobile equipment work, not stationary plant equipment: wheeled, truck-mounted, and track-mounted (crawler) heavy machinery, comparable in scale and complexity to Caterpillar equipment, used in demanding industrial and infrastructure environments.
Day to day:
- Travel to customer sites to diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems on wheeled, truck-mounted, and track-mounted heavy equipment
- Perform service calls, routine maintenance, and software/firmware updates on-site
- Troubleshoot equipment issues under time pressure, often with the customer's operation waiting on the fix
- Work flexible hours based on customer need.
- Maintain service records and communicate repair status back to the team
- Travel regionally throughout New England as assignments require, with per diem covered
What gets you hired:
- 3+ years of hands-on experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, diesel mechanic, or field mechanic on wheeled, truck-mounted, or crawler equipment
- Strong electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting aptitude
- Experience with pneumatic systems
- Comfortable working independently in the field, sometimes in tough weather and long hours
- A valid driver's license and clean-enough motor vehicle record for field travel
- Able to pass a background check and pre-employment physical/fit-for-duty screening
- Specialty industrial equipment experience is a big plus — if that's you, pay can go above the posted range
