This position is for a Track Laborer at Mass Coastal Railroad, whose corporate office is in Taunton, MA. The ideal candidate will be required to perform routine maintenance and construction work on railroad tracks, bridges, and right-of-ways.
Pay Rate: $22/hour to start, $23/hour after successful completion of 90-day Trial Period; additional pay for relevant experience
FULL-TIME, YEAR ROUND
Job Location: Taunton, Onset, New Bedford, Fall River, Hyannis
NON-EXEMPT (eligible for overtime)
Primary Responsibilities:
Operate track maintenance equipment (hydraulic power tools, spike puller, etc.) to grind ends of rails, remove old spikes, drive new spikes, cut ties and perform related maintenance.
Work in a team setting as a member of a work crew.
Use power drill to drill holes through rail or tie plates for insertion of bolts and spikes.
Operate track wrench machine to tighten or loosen bolts at rail joints.
Operate rail saw to cut rail to specified lengths.
Load/Unload and general handling of materials and equipment as instructed.
Perform various type of bridge maintenance as needed.
Assist other employees when and where instructed.
Other duties as assigned
Key Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Railroad Experience is a plus
Must be able to read and comprehend written safety rules, procedure and safety manuals, government regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, memos and other work-related information
Able to think and act quickly in responding to emergency and non-emergency situations
Driver's License in good standing and dependable vehicle are required as travel to job locations may be required
