Director of Family Services and Engagement

  • Salary: $82,500-$102,500 annually
  • Schedule: Full-time, exempt; occasional evening or weekend work may be requested
  • Reports To: Senior Vice President, Child & Family Services Division

Summary/Objective
The Director of Family Services & Engagement leads strategic planning and division-wide systems that ensure coordinated, high-quality, comprehensive, family-centered, and data-driven services across the Child & Family Services Division. They oversee Family Support, Health and Nutrition, Mental Health, Inclusion/Disabilities, ERSEA, and Community Engagement through direct supervision, professional development, and partnership with community organizations.

They strengthen systems that promote family well-being, children's healthy development, inclusive practice, and meaningful family partnership, ensuring families have access to well-being resources and supports. Working closely with early education and divisional leadership, the Director ensures program services are effectively integrated with classroom practice and delivered in accordance with applicable federal, state, local, funder, and organizational requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise, support, and evaluate direct reports through regular reflective supervision, leadership development, constructive feedback, performance management, and individualized professional development planning; address and document performance concerns in a timely manner in collaboration with Human Resources and in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Develop and maintain effective systems for family-centered service delivery that promote family well-being, strengthen parent and caregiver partnerships, and connect families with appropriate internal and community resources.
  • Provide leadership for family engagement practices that recognize parents and caregivers as central partners in children's development and education and create meaningful opportunities for family participation, leadership, and involvement.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for child and family health, nutrition, mental health, and inclusion/disabilities services, including identification of needs, referral, service coordination, follow-up, and partnership with families and external providers.
  • Partner closely with the Director of Early Education and other program leaders to ensure that family services and early education are effectively integrated in support of children's learning, development, health, social-emotional well-being, and family goals.
  • Ensure effective interdisciplinary coordination for children and families with complex or multiple needs, including clear communication, coordinated planning, appropriate documentation, and continuity of services.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, public agencies, health and behavioral health providers, schools, social service organizations, and other partners to strengthen the continuum of services available to children and families and expand opportunities for community engagement.
  • Support staff in engaging, training, and retaining parent and community volunteers and in documenting allowable In-Kind/non-federal share contributions, as applicable.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and regularly update policies, procedures, protocols, and service-delivery systems within assigned areas of responsibility to support consistent, high-quality, trauma-informed, inclusive practice and compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Maintain comprehensive monitoring systems to assess compliance with applicable standards, regulations, funder requirements, and internal procedures and ensure timely follow-up on identified areas of concern.
  • Lead continuous quality improvement through the collection, analysis, and use of program data to identify strengths, trends, service gaps, disparities, and opportunities to improve child and family outcomes.
  • Collaborate with program and division leadership on data systems, reporting, and data quality to ensure information is accurate, timely, complete, and effectively used for service delivery, monitoring, planning, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with division leadership to establish annual goals, monitor progress, participate in program self-assessment, and implement improvement activities aligned with division priorities and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of professional development for Family Services & Engagement staff and support effective recruitment, onboarding, engagement, retention, and succession planning within assigned service areas.
  • Maintain effective coordination with social service and child protection agencies regarding family and child safety and well-being and ensure staff receive appropriate training and guidance regarding mandated reporting requirements.
  • Maintain strong, collaborative relationships across the Child & Family Services Division and foster an environment of cooperation and respect consistent with the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct and organizational values.
  • Maintain the highest degree of professionalism at all times, including adherence to organizational policies, the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct, the Child & Family Services Code of Conduct, attendance expectations, and other standards of professional practice.
  • As a mandated reporter, recognize and report suspected abuse or neglect to the appropriate authorities as required by law.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times and reinforce the importance of confidentiality in staff practice and communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Competencies

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Expertise in Family Systems, Child Development, and Human Services.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement effective, research-based adult learning principles.
  • Takes responsibility for delivery of services as part of team effort in unit/department.
  • Takes initiative in making suggestions for improvement of services.
  • Meets deadlines without causing undue disruption.
  • Utilizes human resources, time, and supplies efficiently.
  • Incorporates organization mission, goals, and policies into daily work to foster an inclusive, supportive, and culturally responsive environment.
  • Positively represents The Dimock Center in all interactions with visitors, families, colleagues, and community partners.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Intermediate computer skills, including Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, and web-based applications.

Work Environment
This position is primarily office based and may involve working in classrooms, including indoor and outdoor environments.

Physical Demands
Duties may require standing and walking, or sitting for long periods of time.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in social work, education, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of five years in a supervisory or leadership role in an early education or human services setting.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Data and outcome management experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Head Start management desired.
  • Bilingual English-Spanish desired.
