Job Overview:
The Assembler Co-Op supports the mechanical assembly of gates, components, and water control systems according to engineering drawings and specifications. This role is ideal for students or recent graduates in engineering, industrial technology, or technical programs seeking hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment. The position plays a key role in ensuring components are properly assembled and ready for functional testing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in assembling mechanical components and gate systems using hand tools, power tools, and industrial equipment.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions to ensure accurate assembly.
- Align, fit, and secure parts using bolts, welds, and appropriate fasteners.
- Measure and inspect completed assemblies to verify compliance with quality standards.
- Support integration of hydraulic, mechanical, or manual components as needed.
- Perform basic functional testing of subassemblies under supervision.
- Report any defects, missing parts, or quality concerns to supervisors.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, following 5S and safety protocols.
- Collaborate with teams from Quality, Engineering, and Shipping to resolve assembly-related issues.
- Follow all company safety policies and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a technical, mechanical engineering, or industrial technology program.
- Basic understanding of technical drawings and mechanical assembly.
- Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments (tape measures, calipers, levels).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work in a shop environment.
- Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn manufacturing processes.
Preferred Skills
- Academic or hands-on experience in metal fabrication or mechanical equipment assembly.
- Basic knowledge of hydraulic or structural systems.
- Forklift certification or experience with overhead cranes (preferred but not required).
- Welding experience is a plus but not required.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Required to stand, bend, and lift for extended periods.
- Rotating schedule, working on a part-time basis
- Work is performed indoors in a shop environment; it may involve occasional outdoor tasks.
- You must wear PPE including a welding helmet, gloves, steel-toed boots, and hearing protection.
- Wage: $18.00 hourly (non-exempt position)
