We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to support the design, development, and production of advanced mechanical and electro-mechanical systems for defense applications. In this role, you will be responsible for developing complex mechanical designs from concept through production release while providing technical leadership and mentoring to Designers, Drafters, and Checkers.
The ideal candidate combines strong CAD expertise, manufacturing knowledge, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) proficiency with the ability to solve complex engineering challenges. This position offers the opportunity to work on highly sophisticated defense programs in a collaborative engineering environment supporting secure, mission-critical technologies.
Military experience equivalency may substitute for some requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop complex mechanical and electro-mechanical components, assemblies, and systems using PTC Creo Parametric and related engineering tools.
- Support hardware development from conceptual layouts through detailed design, engineering release, manufacturing, and production support.
- Perform design trade studies, packaging evaluations, tolerance stack-up analyses, and design optimization activities.
- Develop, maintain, release, and control engineering models, drawings, and Technical Data Packages (TDPs) throughout the product lifecycle.
- Take ownership of assigned designs and ensure all technical, functional, manufacturing, and performance requirements are achieved.
- Delegate and coordinate work assignments for Designers, Drafters, and Checkers while providing technical guidance and mentorship.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, technicians, manufacturing personnel, and cross-functional teams to support prototype development, hardware assembly, testing, and production.
- Create, maintain, and update engineering documentation, configuration records, and design files.
- Process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), Change Actions, and configuration management documentation as required.
- Support product development activities within secure program environments while maintaining compliance with program and customer requirements.
- Apply sound engineering judgment and manufacturing knowledge to resolve complex design challenges throughout the product development lifecycle.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, Engineering Sciences, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical design and drafting, including a minimum of 3 years in a senior-level design role.
- Proficiency using PTC Creo Parametric and engineering file management systems.
- Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5.
- Experience supporting the complete mechanical design process, including conceptual development, detailed design, engineering documentation, procurement support, and manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of standard manufacturing methods and fabrication processes for mechanical components and assemblies.
- Experience creating and maintaining engineering drawings, 3D models, and product definition documentation.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and virtual communication skills.
