The person in this position will aid in the care and treatments, diagnostics and procedures of patients in the Oncology service of the Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital and will assist other services, as needed.
This position will also provide support to the veterinary students in charge of primary patient care and the general cleaning, stocking and maintenance of equipment in the Oncology service area.
Duties will include but are not limited to: operating, maintaining, repairing, cleaning laboratory equipment, clinic area, and maintaining supplies; performing, instructing, and demonstrating specialized veterinary care techniques and procedures; assisting veterinarians in the care of patients requiring specialized care; inspecting facilities, equipment, and supplies daily, as well as observing health status of animals , environmental conditions, temperature, and sanitation; providing specialized care and monitoring of animals before, during, and/or after procedures; administering medicine and treatment according to prescribed instruction; observing and recording vital data, abnormal signs, body weight, food/water intake of animals, and collecting and labeling specimens; performing emergency first aid such as emergency resuscitation or other life-saving procedures; scheduling appointments for diagnostic procedures and advising referring veterinarians about the use of specialized equipment; may be responsible for, or assist in, billing clients, inputting charges, and/or similar tasks.
Level II requires an Associate's degree from an accredited institution in Animal Science or a technical or scientific field related to the area of assignment; plus 2 years of experience in the care and comfort of animals.
The salary range for Level II is $22,300 - $37,200.
Level III requires an Associate's degree from an accredited institution in Animal Science or a technical or scientific field related to the area of assignment; plus 4 years of experience in the care and comfort of animals.
The salary range for Level III is $25,000 - $41,700.
When a candidate has the required experience but lacks the required education, additional relevant experience in the care and comfort of animals can be applied to the education requirement at a rate of two (2) years relevant experience in the care and comfort of animals per year of required education.
Candidates must also have the number of required years of experience in addition to the years of experience used in lieu of education.
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
Must have knowledge of processes, methods and procedures associated with animal care.
